Proverbs 14:3 In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride; but the lips of the wise shall preserve them.
Jerry loved football, he loved to play it, watch it, talk about it, but he knew little else. When he finally reached high school he wanted to play on the school team. Hansock High had a loosing team, he thought he could turn them around and win the championships. So on the first day of school he went up to Coach Nedermier, "Coach, I wanna join the team."
Coach N was a middle aged man, "You have to keep your grades up. And as I can see on your transcript you barely passed to make it here."
"I can do it." Jerry boasted. "There's nothing they can teach in school that I can't learn." Jerry didn't think school could be hard, all his life teachers had gone out of their way just to pass him.
First period was English, Mrs. Haley, a semi-sweet older lady graying hair. Before class started he walked up to her and started to tell her of how he wanted to play on the team and she was going to have to pass him so he could play.
Mrs. Haley frowned at him and told him to sit down class was beginning. She began to teach about dissecting sentences, "This is easy." boasted Jerry. As he began to write down on his paper the sentence and lines going every which way as if he was doing some game plan. After he was finished he jumped out of his desk and walked to the front of the class. He grabbed a piece of chalk and began to scrawl what he had written on the chalkboard for everyone to see how easy it was.
He made several mistakes, the whole thing was wrong except for the noun which he had gotten right. Mrs. Haley frowned at him and made him sit down, when she began to correct his mistakes he scoffed that the rules of English should be changed.
Second period was math, Mr. Kad, he was going on about fractions. Again Jerry did his paper quickly and handed it to the teacher to show off how well he done. "This is easy, I'm gonna beat all of ya'll in here."
"Sit down!" Mr Kad yelled at him and marked on his paper with a red pen then handed it back to him showing he had done it all wrong.
Third period was much easier, drama, Mrs. Dreal she told him to stand at the front of the class and read from the second act of the schools play book. Jerry had already boasted about being able to do this with little ease, so he stood missing several stage directions and started. "My eyes how they sparkle at the sight of you, Caroline." he stated in a mundane voice. "I don't know how I ever lived before I saw you."
Mrs. Dreal made him sit down and pay attention as she entered stage left, paused center stage and began the reading with emotion and gestures.
"It was better when I did it." Jerry scoffed and began shuffling through his papers.
